POLICE commissioner Frank Prendergast and visiting Special Representative of the UN Secretary General Marta Santos Pais have discussed ways forward on the issue of family violence and violence against children.
Mr Prendergast on Thursday said he had fruitful discussions on the continuous combat against the issue.
“It was a useful meeting and we appreciate the support we get from the United Nations in that endeavour.
“The discussions were focused on the need for a very good coordination between stakeholders and donors in the matter due to the fact that this is an endemic problem not only in the Solomon Islands but also around the Pacific region.”
“We discussed the importance of networks such as SAFENET, but they also had the opportunity to visit some of the solution that the Solomon Islands put in place such as the safe pleis clinic.”
He said the meeting was useful in terms of forming understanding what further needs to be done in that space and how we can work better together.
