A contingent from the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) arrived in Honiara on Tuesday 14 April 2026 to provide operational support to the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) during a period of heightened demand on policing resources.
The deployment will support RSIPF – led efforts to maintaining law and order while also assisting with Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations currently underway following the impacts of Tropical Cyclone Maila.
RSIPF Acting Commissioner Mr. Mathias Lenialu said the RPNGC contingent is additional personnel that will work alongside RSIPF officers to strengthen operational depth, support community safety initiatives, and strengthen service delivery as RSIPF continues to meet expanded policing and emergency response priorities.
The Acting Commissioner welcomed the arrival of the RPNGC contingent and acknowledged the long-standing cooperation between the two police organisations.
“The support provided by our regional policing partners is timely and greatly appreciated. This assistance will support the RSIPF – led operations to effectively serve the public while responding to operational demands across the country” Acting Commissioner said.
This support complements the continued assistance already being provided on the ground through established policing partners.
The RPNGC officers will operate under agreed arrangements and in coordination with RSIPF command structures, in accordance with Solomon Islands laws and established policing protocols.
The RSIPF reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety, supporting affected communities and working closely with regional partners to ensure a coordinated and professional response.
