A police officer of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) who had an accident with a police-marked vehicle has been arrested and placed in police custody on Saturday.
RSIPF Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Operation Mr Mathias Lenialu said the accident has occurred further up from the Sape clinic at Guadalcanal Plain Palm Oil Limited (GPPOL I) area in North Guadalcanal.
DC Lenialu said it was alleged that the police officer who work under National Traffic Department (NTD) was under the influence of liquor and drove the police-marked vehicle without permission from his superior.
Mr Lenialu said the case is currently being investigated under NTD and will be forwarded to Professional Standard Internal Investigation (PSII) for further investigation and dealings.
“The right action at the moment is to deal with the officer so that he faces a fair trial before the court,” Lenialu said.
