POLICE in Malu’u, north Malaita, are investigating the death of a 50-year-old man at Sulugwalu Village on 20 January 2018.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Malaita Province Inspector Peter Kinita says it will be alleged that the deceased was drinking homebrew with his cousins.
“After a while he was not feeling well so he went home. At home he began experiencing stomach ache,” Kinita said.
“The situation got worse and his relatives transported him to the Malu’u Clinic for medication,” he added.
“The deceased passed away on the way to the Clinic.
“The matter was reported to Police in Malu’u and an initial enquiry into the matter was conducted.”
Kinita said on the next day, 21 January 2019, a police team comprising of officers from the Forensics Department, National Criminal Investigations Department (NCID) and a doctor from the National Referral Hospital arrived at the scene and upon a request from the family members of the deceased a post-mortem was conducted.
“Investigation into this matter is ongoing and I want to appeal to relatives of the deceased to let the police do their job and not to take the law into their own hands.”
