Officers of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in Taro, Choiseul Province, on Saturday rolled out a public safety awareness program aimed at promoting peace and responsible behaviour during the festive season.
Held at the Buni market area, the awareness program focuses on preventing crime and ensuring public safety as communities prepare for Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Speaking during the program, Officer Daisy Rooney reminded the public that festive celebrations often come with increased risks, including alcohol abuse, domestic violence and public disturbances.
“Therefore, we encourage all residents to celebrate responsibly, respect one another and comply with the law,” she said.
She further advised outboard motor drivers to avoid consuming alcohol while driving, and urged parents to closely monitor their children, especially during night time celebrations.
Residents were also reminded to take responsibility for their personal and community safety by reporting suspicious activities and cooperating with police officers on duty.
The festive season safety awareness campaign will continue throughout the holiday period, with increased patrols planned to ensure a peaceful and safe celebration for everyone.
