Dear Editor – It’s such a sad state to see our roads in a worse state at the moment. It’s getting worse following the heavy rain.
Very little had been done to fix the roads for the past weeks now.
Take a ride from Kukum in east Honiara all the way down to White River in west Honiara and you will see the pathetic road condition.
It’s really frustrating indeed if you are traveling the highway each day.
The poor road condition had also affected traffic flow and movement of people each day.
Taxi and bus owners are also reluctant to serve some of the routes due to bad road condition.
Vehicle owners are also bracing for extra cost to pay for new spare-parts and tyres because of the impact of the many potholes it would have on their vehicles.
So it’s very disappointing.
One thing is for sure, our current financial status is not good that’s why work had been halted.
This is a sad state indeed for the country.
The public is concern about the current economic situation and what the government is going to do about.
I understand there is national transport fund which caters for road improvement. Am not sure if that funding is running low as well.
Please we need to have the roads fixed.
In the meantime, I’m happy to see the progress being made by the Japanese contractors to work on the Honiara City Council (HCC) roundabout and the bridge.
Thank you for the job well done so far.
People are now able to see the professional work you have done and have never complained nor criticise your work.
Our wish is, if only the Japanese contractor can redo the entire road network in Honiara from Point Cruz to White River and then from Kukum to Henderson. That would be much appreciated.
For now fix our roads!
