A FAULTY cable has resulted in power disruption in parts of Auki, Malaita province last week.
The one day blackout has result in many perishable goods stored in freezers in shops being thrown away.
Solomon Islands Electricity Authority (SIEA) chief engineer Martin Sam confirmed early this week that one of the two feeder cables that supplied power from the main power station to Auki town was faulty.
A technical team from Honiara was dispatched to Auki to fix the problem.
An inspection team from SIEA will be traveling over to Auki this weekend to conduct a full assessment of the power supply to ensure that power remains stable.
Following the power cut a number of local shops in Auki have thrown some of the perishable products which have been damaged as a result of lack of power.
A shop owner who declined to be named said, most of the goods in his freezer had to be thrown away such as chicken and pork.
He said, its important to have a reliable power supply in Auki to avoid such things from happening.
