Powerlifting Solomon Islands (PSI) has become the seventh National Federation to register with National Sport Council (NSC) for 2026.
NSC made the announcement yesterday confirming that the PSI has officially become the seventh sport federation to register with the National Sports Council (NSC) for 2026, marking an important milestone in national sports governance and athlete development.
The NSC Board confirmed the registration this week.
PSI will submit remaining documentation following its upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM).
NSC confirmed that with registration now confirmed, Powerlifting can immediately access a range of opportunities under NSC’s 2026 framework.
These include complimentary use of national sporting facilities for national squad training, access to the High Performance (HP) Centre, and the ability to nominate senior and junior squads across both genders as part of the national athlete development pathway.
Emerging athletes will be supported through selection of at least one junior squad per gender, with athlete lists based on recent competition results requested by NSC.
“Registered federations can also apply for the NSC Governance Grant of $10,000, as well as additional funding opportunities.
“Funding approval is subject to NSC discretion, compliance and availability. A governance recognition certificate will be issued to formally acknowledge PSI’s compliance.
“This registration reflects NSC’s ongoing commitment to sustainable athlete pathways, stronger governance standards and supporting federations to compete on regional and international stages”.
Earlier this year, the Floorball Federation of Solomon Islands became the first federation to complete registration for 2026. Cricket, Football, Hockey, Tennis and Athletics have since followed, highlighting a growing commitment across sports to structured development and governance.
