PEOPLE’s Republic of China (PRC) has donated 872 volumes of books and $387,645.12 to Chung Wah School in Honiara on Wednesday.
PRC donated the books on behalf of Guangdong Book House, established by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Guangdong Province.
The books cover China’s economy, history, culture and society.
Chinese Ambassador, His Excellency, Cai Weiming said these books will serve as a window for students to feel and understand China.
“Education is the foundation of a nation’s strength and prosperity, and the essence of cultivating virtue and nurturing talents lies in the wisdom contained within books,” Weiming said.
“There is an ancient Chinese saying, “Books contain houses of gold and beauties like jade”. It not only reflects the all-encompassing and profound contents of Chinese classics but also highlights the emphasis on education since ancient times in China.

Minister of Education and Human Resources, Tozen Leokana expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the PRC Government.
“I am confident that these 872 volumes will prove beneficial for both students and teachers, offering valuable resource for reference and study.
“The availability of these books significantly increases the learning resources within the school, further enriching the teaching and learning environment,” he said.
The School’s Principal, Mrs. Eunice Tahuniara thanked the Chinese Embassy.
“This act of kindness and commitment to educate will have a lasting impact on our school and our students, empowering them with knowledge and opportunities for a brighter future.
“Your generosity serves as an inspiration, reminding us all of the power of collaboration and the importance of investing in education,” Mrs. Tahuniara said.
