WESTERN Provincial Premier Billy Veo has issued a heartfelt apology to the people of Makira following the tragic death of young Stephanus in Honiara recently.
Premier Veo expressed his deepest condolences to the grieving family and the entire Makira community, describing the incident as a senseless act of violence that has shocked the nation.
“As the Premier of Western Province, I sincerely apologize to the people of Makira for this heartbreaking tragedy that has claimed the life of young Stephanus,” he said in an exclusive interview with the Solomon Star yesterday.
“I want to assure the family and the people of Makira that we stand with you during this time of sorrow and pain.
“No one should ever have to experience such a devastating loss, especially under such circumstances.”
Premier Veo also condemned the killing in the strongest possible terms, urging that those responsible be brought to justice without delay.
“This is an act that should never have happened, and I strongly condemn the killing of young Stephanus who is also a student with bright ahead of his future.
“We must work together to ensure that such violence is not tolerated in our communities and that those who commit these crimes are held accountable.”
Amongst the gruesome murder of that young student, one suspect who was invloved in the murder incident weeks ago is part Western Province in Roviana Lagoon in Bulelavata village.
Premier Veo called on all young people in Honiara, especially those from Western Province, to avoid getting involved in criminal activities or associating with groups known for violence and theft.
“To our young people in Honiara, I urge you to stay away from bad company and criminal activities that put your lives and the lives of others at risk,” he said.
He added, these actions not only cause heartbreak for families but also damage the reputation of the province and country as a whole.
The premier stressed the importance of unity and peace, emphasizing that communities must come together to prevent further violence and protect innocent lives.
“We must be vigilant and support one another in our communities,” he said.
He added, the incident is a stark reminder of the need to look after young people and to ensure that they are engaged in positive activities that help build a better future.
Premier Veo concluded by reiterating his sincere condolences to the family of young Stephanus and pledged his support in seeking justice for the young man’s death.
“To the people of Makira and especially to the family of young Stephanus, we share in your grief and pray for comfort and healing in this difficult time,” he said.
