Dear Editor – It is good another good news that DCC received an offer from China’s Skyline Business Council (CSBC) to rehabilitate the Henderson International Airport and the road from there to the city.
The CSBC made it clear that they are a private business group and does not represent the Chinese government.
However, what is subtly clear from that intention is that CSBC are investors therefore they must have already seen the returns to their investment for making the offer.
There is no free lunch in this capitalist world and I wonder what they will have in return for their investment.
Definitely they will not impose fees on road users for the roads they finance.
Perhaps a more probing question is whether DCC is vigilant of investors expected returns.
Chinese investment in all over the world, no doubt.
However, if SI gov’t ever since find difficulty controlling the Chinese shop owners, how can it face the might of CSBC in the private sector in terms of regulation and enforcement?
I will not be cynical about the offer if is not an investment.
However let’s just wait and see because this is the first time Chinese are putting money directly into infrastructure for the country.
