NATIONAL psychiatric unit officer in charge has welcomed the call to investigate alleged sexual abuse reported by Island Sun newspaper fortnight ago.
Jack Kaota made the assurance during the Malaita health conference on Monday this week in Auki.
Mr. Kaota told the participants that he welcomes any form of investigation into the alleged sexual abuse, adding the report has exposed a very serious allegation.
“The national psychiatric unit welcomes any form of investigations into the alleged sexual abuse and we have nothing to hide.
“I’m not feeling well addressing the participants at the conference because of the degrading article, which was published attacking the national psychiatric unit at Kilu’ufi.
“If you aware of it, there is an article, which attacked the national psychiatric unit,” he expressed.
“It is a very disturbing article because we are in partnership with Oxfam to fight violence against women,” he expressed in disappointment.
He said it’s good to obtain facts before publishing report for public consumption.
“While criticism is good for leaders, its always proper to get both sides of the story before doing any publication to avoid misleading the public.”
