Dear Editor – I am writing to express my concern regarding the protection rights of young women to access abortion care and options in Solomon Islands.
It has become a public concern that abortion does not only affect the well-being of young women but also their health.
Abortion is a personal decision, and every young women must have access to legal and safe options.
In our country, many young women face obstacles when seeking abortion care that include, inadequate access to healthcare facilities, lack of financial support, and restrictive laws that limits their ability to make choices.
Victims of abuse that leads to unplanned pregnancies is a major concern that resulted in devastating consequences of physical and mental health.
In this case, we need to provide a support system that includes medical care and counseling services.
Moreover, we should uphold policies that all women must have access to reproductive healthcare.
This includes supporting legislations like the EACH WOMAN ACT that aimed at eliminating the restriction of child abortion based on insurance or income type.
By doing this, we empower woman to make conversant decisions about their health without the fear of judgment and financial burden.
Therefore, we must prioritize the rights and health of our young women when discussing abortion.
We must work together to create an environment that allows individuals to make the best choices that are free from interference and stigma.
I urge our lawmakers and community leaders to take action now in support of reproductive rights for all.
