Permanent Secretaries (PS), Under Secretaries (US) and senior officials of the various Government Ministries have concluded the Constitutional Reform Unit’s (CRU) Public Awareness on the 2nd 2014 Draft Federal Constitution of Solomon Islands yesterday at Heritage Park Hotel.
The Awareness program started on Monday 29th February and was expected to end on Friday 4th March, however; there was a shift in schedule for that week due to the State Funeral of Late Sir Peter Kenilorea and another weeklong PSs workshop the following week.
An extra four days was set aside this week to cover Chapters 8 to 18 and relating schedules.
CRU’s Consultant Lawyer Mr. Reginald Teutao made technical and legal explanations on the contents of the 2nd 2014 Draft.
In his concluding remarks, Mr. Teutao thanked these senior and chief government officials for their presence and their contributions, which is highly appreciated and noteworthy.
Chairlady of Constitutional Congress Jenny Tuhaika, who chaired most of the sessions said that she values the contributions from the PSs and USs as a lot of them have contributed based on their experiences in their line of work and respective fields.
“Your contributions will really improve this document,” she said, “It will help in the shaping and drafting of this constitution as this plenary of Congress that will take place will be the very final one.”
On this note she thanked those who were present, and also acknowledged their colleagues who were not present in this session due to their busy work schedules.
CRU, DCC Government’s Fundamental Reform Unit (FRU) and Constitutional Congress have collaborated to do this awareness meeting with these heads of government officials.
