In preparation for next month’s Pacific Island Forum (PIF) Leaders Meeting in Honiara all public servants are now taking few hours off from work each Wednesdays and Fridays to clean up parts of the Honiara city.
In a circular to all government ministries last week, all government officers are to take few hours off from work in the afternoon during the two days to help clean up Honiara city.
Most of the ministries have been assigned various zones to clean up.
This afternoon – Wednesday 27th August 2025 staff from the Solomon Islands National Statistics Office joined the clean-up work.
“This is in preparation for the upcoming Pacific Leaders Meeting in September,” a statement from the Statistics Office said.

Staff from the National Parliament Office also joined in a clean-up effort as well.
“Parliament staff responded positively to the Public Service Circular, turning out in numbers this afternoon (Wednesday) to take part in the clean-up campaign.”
For the Parliament staff they covered the designated area from the Independent Office to the Laulasi bus stop.
“This demonstrates teamwork and commitment towards keeping the city clean and safe,” a statement from Parliament Office said.
Other public officers are also supporting the clean-up effort on Wednesday.
The next clean-up for this week will be on Friday.
