A FORMER MP for Central Honiara of Chinese origin has moved to Makira-Ulawa to contest the Central Makira seat.
Moon Pin Quan told the Solomon Star he was born in Makira-Ulawa Province and his decision to contest the Central Makira seat was in response to request from the people.
Mr Quan, who has been a businessman in Honiara over the years, was MP for Central Honiara from 1997 to 2001.
In preparation for the elections, he said he is focusing on the things that voters of Central Makira regard as their basic needs.
Mr Quan made clear his commitment to assist schools to address their basic needs to provide the right environment for teaching and learning to take place.
He also intends to set up a literacy centre in Central Makira to teach adults who are unable to read and write.
In the health sector, Mr Quan plans to assist health clinics to address their basic needs and to provide health care to people who require such services especially as a means to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and venerable diseases among the youth population.
“Through my leadership I will work closely with the Makira Provincial government to get medical and health services to people living in the outskirts of Central Makira,” he said.
“And ensure that people living in the outback of Central Makira have access to clean water, proper toilets, sanitation and equipped them with solar energy for lights,” he said.
Mr Quan said as an intending candidate he has to think local and act local for the sake of the Central Makira constituency and to attract the people to vote for him.
“Starting from this central point I will then focus my views onwards to take in the needs of all the people of Makira and the needs of all the people of Solomon Islands.
“Planning for the needs of the nation is every thinking people’s responsibility but more so it is the responsibility of the political parties to venture into on behalf of individuals,” he said.
Mr Quan maintained that his campaign strategy will concentrate on the issues that has affected the lives of the voters in Central Makira and how he propose to address and solve them.
He assured he will provide the kind of leadership that will bring about improvement to the lives of the people of Central Makira constituency.
