Since the washing away of the old Mataniko bridge in Chinatown last Thursday vehicles and pedestrians have been badly affected by the cut-off.
For over nearly a week the public have to travel further by foot and vehicle and crossed the main Mataniko bridge inorder to reach the Point Cruz area or Chinatown.
And this had cost them time and energy to walk an extra mile or so.
But a group on Wednesday have seized the opportunity to offer a raft to transport people across where the old Mataniko bridge used to stand.
Although it comes at a cost, it had offered so much relief for many people living and working in the Chinatown area.
The group which included a number of gentlemen and ladies have been busy since Wednesday morning to transport people by taking turns to captain the raft.
Some of the ladies were stationed to collect the fees.
As more people learn about the raft, they turned up to cross the river using the raft rather than walking further.
One of the boys see the opportunity and decided to step in to offer the service.
The group is hoping to continue with their service until authorities have reconnected the old bridge.
Members of the public who waited to cross the river applauded the group for the service which reduced their time to walk a longer distance.
