The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force and Australian Federal Police Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) have donated sporting gear to Ghaobata Football Club and Brisolona Futsal Academy in Honiara as part of their ongoing commitment to youth development, community engagement, and crime prevention through positive activities.
The donations, which included; team uniforms, soccer balls, and training equipment.
The support was intended to enhance team performance, boost morale, and provide young people with opportunities to develop important life skills such as teamwork, discipline, and leadership.
By supporting sports programmes, RAPPP reinforces its broader mission of building safer communities through youth engagement and promoting constructive alternatives to anti-social behaviour.
Ghaobata Football Club received uniforms and training equipment to strengthen its players’ performance and motivation.
Club President Dickson Maeke expressed his gratitude for the support, highlighting the impact it will have on both the team and the community:
“We are very grateful for this donation. It will boost our performance on the field and lift our team’s morale, as we now have proper gear for both training and matches. This support motivates us to work harder and represent our community with pride,” Maeke said.

Midfield player Jody Santos Ata added that the donation would also encourage other young people to get involved in sports:
“This support will help improve our performance. I also would like to encourage other young boys to get involved in sports, as it keeps us active and away from unlawful activities,” Ata said.
RSIPF Officer Minah Maitaki emphasised the importance of sports in community policing initiatives:
“RSIPF supports sports groups because they help strengthen community policing efforts, particularly in guiding young people towards positive pathways.
“We encourage all players to be good citizens and role models in their communities,” she said.
Brisolona Futsal Academy, which trains primary school students, also received sporting gear from RAPPP. Coach Victor Waiia said the donation would significantly impact the academy and its young participants:
“This donation is very helpful and will go a long way in helping our academy grow. The Brisolona Futsal Academy caters to very young students, so this is a huge morale boost for their training. Sports is an important part of character development, and RAPPP’s support goes beyond sports gear; it supports the growth of our children,” Waiia said.
Eleven-year-old Deinstein Romwane, a student at the academy, shared his excitement:
“This donation really made my day. Now I feel like I’m part of a team, and my sports brothers and I will be wearing our uniforms during practice,” he said.
These donations reflect RAPPP’s ongoing commitment to supporting young people, promoting teamwork, and strengthening community bonds.
By providing sports equipment and encouragement, RAPPP and RSIPF help young people build positive habits, stay active, and contribute to safer and stronger communities across the Solomon Islands.
