Solomon Islands Red Cross (SIRC) on Wednesday launched its FINPAC Project at the Lord Howe Settlement.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, SIRC Community Risk Disaster Management spokesperson Cameron Vudi said this project would enable an improved monitoring and delivery of weather and climate services to the community.
Vudi said communities would be able to use this to be better informed before going out to their routine activities such as fishing, agriculture and resource management.
“More accurate weather information and early warnings will allow for better preparation to severe weather events,” he said.
He said Wednesday’s launching is a milestone for communities that have access to this project.
“This project has set a new chapter in the lives of individuals in alerting themselves in times of natural disasters,” he said.
“These weather forecasts are also valuable for implementing preventative measures against diseases such as dengue and cholera.”
Vudi also assured the Lord Howe community of SIRC’s commitment to disaster preparation and management.
He said SIRC will continue to work with aid donors, Non-Government Organisations, government and other stakeholders on matters concerning the lives of people in times of disasters.
He thanked the Lord Howe community for their hard work and call on the community to take good care of the facility.
