MILLIONS around the world marked Valentine’s Day last Friday, the 16th of February.
In Solomon Islands those who took time out to rekindle their love did so with various romantic activities.
Such was the case for a lucky couple, who won the grand prize on Paoa FM’s Valentine’s Day competition.
Working in collaboration with Ginger Beach Retreat management in West Guadalcanal, the grand prize was a weekend away at the picturesque Ginger Beach Retreat.
The lucky couple who won the grand prize was Jimmy Longa 46, and Ruth Faru, 28 from Balasuna, in the GPPOL 3, east Guadalcanal, traveling almost the length of the island to their destination.
Through a simple romantic Valentine’s Day Text message to Paoa FM, Ruth entered the Valentine’s draw and was picked and announced the winner on Valentine’s Day.
Ruth entered the competition on Sunday the 11th of February, answering the question, ‘Describe your partner in one word’.
“I tried my luck and texted the word, adorable,” Ruth grinned.
The prize included one night stay in a Bungalow at Ginger Beach Retreat, a romantic dinner for two on the beach overlooking the Iron Bottom Sound, and Bed & Breakfast.
Ruth and Jimmy were also awarded with complimentary wine and gifts from Daniella Garo of the Retreat.
About 30 couples spent last weekend at the Ginger Beach Retreat for Valentine’s Night special evening program.
One of the highlights of the night was Solomon Islands renowned female hit maker Rosie Delmah’s special feature, entertaining the couples at the retreat during dinner, and throughout the night which ended in a dance.
Other couples who attended won other awards including the Best danced couple, the best dressed Valentines couple and the Valentine’s Couple of the night.
Jimmy and Ruth were then invited to do the prize presentations to the winning couples.
“It was the first ever Valentine’s Day we ever celebrated, and we are so grateful for this opportunity,” the couple said.
“We enjoyed Ginger Beach Retreat so much, we’d like to thank the management and staff of Ginger Beach Retreat for their hospitality, friendliness, and welcoming attitude.”
“They have opened up our eyes to embrace love for each other, and gave us ideas too about what we could do with our land in East Guadalcanal where we reside.”
The Paoa FM Management would also like to thank Ginger Beach Retreat management, Sullivans and Nambawan Meat, Tides Bar & Grill, for sponsoring prizes for couples who won on Valentine’s Day.
