The Rendova Football Championship 2025 officially kicked off on Wednesday, marking an exciting week of football action thanks to the Kenwood Cup.
A total of 14 teams have registered to compete in this year’s championship, with teams travelling from Lokuru, Baniata, Rendova Harbour, Egholo, Munda and host community Ughele.
The official opening ceremony was held on Tuesday night and attracted strong community support.
Speeches were delivered by the main sponsor Kenwood Harry, members of the organising committee and community elders.
The ceremony concluded with a spectacular fireworks display, making the opening a memorable and historic occasion for both participating teams and local residents, described as the first of its kind for the championship.
Lokuru is represented by three teams — Bangopingho A, Bangopingho B and Kureomo. Baniata has one team competing under the sponsor name Zaena Eels (Tirogho), while Egholo is represented by Seven United.
Rendova Harbour has two teams, Devon Red and Devon Yellow, formed from a combination of Raduvu and Madali.
Munda is represented by Bazo Rabbits, and host community Ughele has the highest representation with five teams — UZBA, Lavas A, Lavas B, UFA Blue and UFA Red.
The tournament will be played in a pool format, followed by the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the grand final.
The Rendova Football Championship 2025 is scheduled to run from December 24 to December 31, 2025, promising a week of competitive football and community celebration.
