WOMEN from the Savulei ward in West Guadalcanal are calling on the responsible authorities to repair their bridge that broke down last month.
The group made the call last week after going through difficulties in transporting their market produces to Honiara market.
A spokeswoman for the group said, that they want to call upon their provincial and national members to work together and repair the bridge immediately.
The bridge is in the West Guadalcanal constituency.
“We want our provincial and parliamentary leaders to address this situation because it affects our movement to Honiara to sell our produce,” the women said.
According to Mr Toki, the bridge was damaged during last month’s heavy rain.
“This is the only bridge that connects the people of Savulei ward to the city,” Mr Toki said.
Because of the situation, vehicles have to cross the river with market vendors inorder to reach Honiara.
During flooding, the roads are blocked.
Mr Toki said Savulei ward is one of the areas that contributes a lot to the country’s economy through cocoa, copra and timber production.
“Since this bridge was damaged their cash flow is also affected,” he added.
