Dear Editor – The rising cost of living in the Solomon Islands is more than just an economic issue; it’s a sign of poor planning and weak systems.
Prices of food, fuel, and basic goods continue to climb, yet salaries stay the same.
Meanwhile, the gap between those who can afford to live comfortably and those who can barely manage keeps growing.
Blaming “global prices” isn’t enough. The real problem lies in our heavy reliance on imports, limited local production, and slow government response to inflation.
We can’t keep depending on external markets while our local farmers and small businesses receive little support.
If the government is serious about helping its people, it should focus on strengthening local industries, reducing unnecessary imports, and enforcing fair market practices.
Economic stability starts with self-reliance, not excuses.
Economic stability starts with self-reliance. People are doing their best to survive, but life shouldn’t be this hard.
Sincerely,
