Two dead, one in critical condition
TWO students are dead and the third in critical condition after their vehicle crashed in the Foxwood area of east Honiara, in the early hours of yesterday.
Police say the students are of Don Bosco College.
“The vehicle they are travelling is a RAV4 and was on high speed,” a police officer investigating the case said.
“Alcohol was believed to be involved,” the officer added.
Police say the vehicle was heading back to town with five people on board – a girl and four male.
“It crashed into a roadside drain at Foxwood at around 1am,” police say.
“Police were informed of the incident and immediately, forensic and traffic officers were dispatched to the scene.”
The incident renewed calls for the public to stop drinking when driving.
“The public particularly those behind wheels and passengers must take all safety measures whatsoever, in relation to preventing such carelessness happening again,” a statement from the police media unit said.
“The onus of life solely rests with the choice made by respective motor vehicle drivers and passengers alike, while using the main roads especially, with the respect to drive without the influence of liquor, overloading and speeding.”
Police urge the general public to report anyone in a motor vehicle, drinking whilst driving and travelling.
