The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF), through the RSIPF and AFP Policing Partnership Program (RAPPP) delivered a specialised training program to help frontline officers manage high-risk incidents safely through effective communication and conflict de-escalation.
The RAPPP Tactical Communication for Conflict De-escalation in High-Risk Environments course was held over three days at the Rove Academy. It equipped first responders with practical verbal communication skills to de-escalate high-risk situations and introduced a verbal tactical option aligned with RSIPF Use of Force policies.
The training covered stress response, behavioural influence, and practical communication techniques, and participants had the opportunity to practice their skills through scenario-based exercises. The course helped officers recognise and manage physiological stress during critical incidents, supporting better judgement and safer decision-making.
Participants included officers from the Police Support Unit (PSU), the Close Personal Protection Department (CPPD), and frontline officers from White River, Central, Naha, and Henderson police stations. The course was adapted to reflect Solomon Islands cultural contexts, ensuring practical and locally relevant application.
Following this delivery, the program is set to continue throughout the year for RSIPF frontline and provincial officers. The initiative reflects RSIPF’s ongoing commitment to professional development, community-focused policing, and safe, culturally informed policing services across the Solomon Islands.
