RULING on a committal hearing conducted on the case of seven men accused of murdering another man in May at Borderline, East Honiara, will be delivered on Monday.
Hudson Eddie Asuani, Greg Metefaka, Richard Sangula, Junior Danga, Kevin Sibele, Rusileta Jimmy and Daua Redley are all facing one count of Murder.
A short form preliminary inquiry was conducted on Wednesday 20 August, in which the prosecution tendered documents containing evidence to the court.
Deputy Chief Magistrate will review the documents and deliver his ruling on Monday, determining whether there is sufficient evidence to commit this matter to the High Court for trial.
The defendants are accused of murdering a young man in the early hours of May 17 2025 at Borderline.
The prosecution alleged the defendants attempted to steal the deceased’s bag and phone and when he resisted, they attacked him.
The deceased’s body was found on the steps of the Mamulele Jacob’s Ladder, with severe head injuries, including two cuts and a star-shaped wound to the back of his head.
The prosecution alleged that the accused had been drinking alcohol and causing trouble earlier that night, harassing female vendors and using abusive language.
Crown witnesses said this behavior is typical of the defendants when they consume alcohol.
Defence counsels from the Public Solicitor’s Office represent the defendants, while the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) appear for the Crown.
