A FIVE-day youth empowerment training under the Youth Economic and Climate Action (YECA) initiative concluded successfully last week.
It was held at Oibola Community, bringing together 35 motivated young participants from Adakwa (East Malaita), Namosalabe (Central Kwara’ae), and Oibola (Aoke Langalanga).
The training focused on Business Ideation and Business Process Development, and was facilitated by Medodias Iapara from the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children, and Family Affairs (MWYCFA) in Honiara.
Mr. Iapara expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to work with youth in rural communities.
As a representative of MWYCFA, he said, he was honoured to have facilitated this training, which reflects their continued commitment to equipping young people with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to become agents of change in their own lives.
He also acknowledged the unique challenges faced by rural youth, while emphasizing their deep-rooted connection to their land, economy, and community.
YECA Project Coordinator Richard Olita thanked participants for their dedication, and expressed gratitude to the host community for their warm hospitality.
“I’m grateful to all three youth groups for their time and effort throughout this training—and especially to the Oibola youth for graciously hosting the event,” he said.
The YECA project is funded by Plan International Ireland with support from the European Commission.
It is implemented in the Solomon Islands by Plan International Pacific Solomon Islands, in partnership with the Solomon Islands National Youth Congress (SINYIC).
The initiative aims to build the capacity of young people to tackle climate change and economic challenges through sustainable solutions and practical skill-building opportunities.
