The SIFF Super League (S-League) returned over the weekend with three entertaining catch-up matches, bringing the first round to an action-packed close.
The country’s top-flight league had been on hold since late June due to a busy football calendar, including domestic and regional competitions staged in Honiara in recent months.
Despite the pause, local fans turned out in modest numbers at Lawson Tama Stadium to witness the league’s return.
Marist FC got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Ghupo FC in Sunday’s opening fixture.
In the second match, Waneagu United edged Laugu United 1-0 to secure their second win of the season.
The highlight clash came in the 3pm main fixture, where league leaders Kossa FC faced Green Shield FC in a fiery top-of-the-table showdown.
The first half alone saw three red cards, before goals from Emmanuel Hou and Kiren Israel secured a 2-0 win for Green Shield, sending them to the top of the standings.
With most teams now having completed their remaining round-one fixtures, anticipation is building as the competition moves into its second and final round.
