SABO United Football Club of Ward 11 in Northwest Choiseul has received a donation of sports equipment to support the development of sports in the community.
The official handing over took place yesterday at Toveneo Lodge, Central Honiara, where the Minister for Sports, Tourism and Lauru Affairs, Hon. Georgy Vanakana, presented the equipment to Sabo United’s team manager, Cornelius Alolobatu.
Speaking during the ceremony, Minister Vanakana said, the donation was aimed at strengthening the capacity of rural sports clubs to train and empower young people.
“This is to empower the club by boosting training and performance in sports, and to bring unity among our youths in the rural community,” Minister Vanakana said.
He added that sports plays a vital role in building peace, discipline, and togetherness in Choiseul Province and encouraged other Members of Parliament to support their wards through similar initiatives.
“Sports in Choiseul Province has improved compared to previous years. This support will help our young people maintain their interest and performance in sports activities,” he said.
Team manager Alolobatu thanked Minister Vanakana for his continuous support to Sabo United, describing the donation as a timely boost for the club.
“This is very helpful for the club to strengthen our training and performance through sports in the community,” he said.
He also acknowledged the presence of Colin Tutua and members of the club who attended the event, saying their support has been vital in keeping sports alive in the community.
Sabo United expressed its gratitude and said it looks forward to upcoming tournaments in Choiseul Province where the new equipment will be put to use.
