SAPE Farm donated a cheque of SBD $200,000 on Monday 13 April 2026, to support communities in Western and Choiseul provinces affected by Tropical Cyclone Maila.
The donation was handed over to the National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) in Honiara.
The cheque was officially presented to the Chairman of the National Disaster Operation Committee (N-DOC) by SAPE Farm owner and Member of Parliament for North Guadalcanal, Honourable Dr Paul Popora Bosawai.
Mr Jonathan Tafiariki, Chairman of N-DOC, acknowledged SAPE Farm’s contribution on behalf of the committee.
He noted that the National Government, through the National Disaster Council (NDC), is working hard to restore hope in the provinces shattered by the Category 4 cyclone.
The Chair of the National Disaster Operations Committee expressed gratitude to the Hon. Bosawai and SAPE Farm for their assistance, assuring that the funds will be utilised to procure food supplies in accordance with the intended purpose communicated at the time of handover.
The Western and Choiseul Provincial Disaster Operation Committees, as the bodies responsible for leading provincial disaster efforts, will determine the allocation of these supplies to the affected communities.
At present, the funds will be directed toward the purchase of rice, which will constitute part of the bulk supplies transported by Patrol Boat to Western Province to support ongoing relief distribution efforts.
Dr Bosawai said he was very pleased that SAPE Farm is taking part in the recovery process for the people of the Western Province and Choiseul Province.
“When people put their heads together,” he added, “it is a very good sign” of better things to come after the destruction caused by Cyclone Maila.
He also recalled that in 2014, he and some of his classmates raised funds channelled through the Solomon Islands Red Cross to support people affected by the flash floods.
“Lending a hand enables affected people to quickly get back on their feet and move on with life,” Dr Bosawai said.
The National Government, through the National Disaster Council (NDC), is strengthening coordinated emergency relief efforts to ensure timely availability of financial resources. These resources support response operations and the effective delivery of assistance to affected provinces and communities.
The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO), through the NEOC, continues to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure a coordinated, timely, and effective response to Tropical Cyclone Maila.
The needs of affected and vulnerable communities remain the highest priority.
