Koriovuku community in Central Ranogga, Western Province, marked another milestone last week as it hosted Save the Children’s “Safe Families” program.
The event was held from Tuesday 28 to Friday 31 October 2025.
The four-day event was organised in partnership with Save the Children Project Officer, Mr. Alban Tara, community leaders, women, men, children, and persons with disabilities.
According to local freelance contributor Chris Pondokolo from Koriovuku, the program aims to strengthen family relationships and promote safer home environments for children.
Mr. Tara highlighted that every child deserves to grow up in a safe and loving family setting.
“All children need a safe home where they can live, learn, and grow together as a family,” he said.
He urged the community to identify 20 parents to participate in 12 training sessions focused on parenting, family interaction, and child protection.
He added that the program’s purpose is not to find fault within families but to support communities in creating safer and more nurturing homes for children.
The highlight of the event was the visit by senior representatives from Save the Children’s head office in Honiara — Regional Child Protection Advisor Ms. Anna Lazer, Director of Program Development and Quality Ms. Cindiya Siva, and Country Director Mrs. Tory Clawson.
During their visit on Friday, the officials met with 20 selected students from Koriovuku Primary School and held discussions with community leaders and parents.
A similar Safe Families program is being implemented in Pienuna Village, also on Ranogga Island, extending its reach to children with disabilities.
