AN Indonesian national has died in Honiara after sustaining serious injuries following a robbery incident early this month.
Alwyn Danitofea Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Communication and Aviation (MCA) announced the sad news.
“With profound sadness, we share the news of the passing of Mr. Ngabdullah, an Indonesian Security Supervisor with China Railway Construction Engineering Group Company Limited (CRCEG),” he said.
The management and staff of China Railway Construction Engineering Group Company Limited (CRCEG) are mourning the loss of their Security Supervisor.
Late Ngabdullah passed away on 8 July 2025 at the National Referral Hospital, from injuries believed to have been sustained while responding to a violent robbery at the company’s Honiara International Airport premises on 2 July 2025 which he bravely attempted to defend.
Mr Danitofea said, Mr. Ngabdullah was a highly respected and dedicated member of the security team.
“His courage, professionalism, and selfless commitment to duty in the face of danger exemplified the values upheld by the company.
“His untimely loss is deeply felt by his colleagues and all who had the privilege of working alongside him.”
Government is working closely with CRCEG and the relevant authorities to ensure the dignified repatriation of his body to his grieving family in Indonesia.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and the Indonesian community during this difficult time.”
An official report is currently being prepared to determine the full circumstances surrounding his passing.
Once concluded, the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force will proceed with appropriate actions, he said.
“The Solomon Islands Government strongly condemns this appalling and senseless act of violence, which has no place in our society. Authorities are treating the case with the utmost seriousness.
“We urge anyone who may have information related to the incident to come forward and contact the police on 36111,” he said.
CRCEG is currently engaged in some of the road and aviation projects in Solomon Islands.
