Duidui Ward in South Guadalcanal is buzzing with excitement as a seven-a-side soccer competition gets underway this morning, Thursday 31st July as part of the Guadalcanal Province Second Appointed Day celebration this Friday.
A total of 18 teams from villages across the ward are participating.
The event has sparked a wave of enthusiasm, unity, and friendly as spectators gather tom celebrate athleticism and togetherness.
Held as part of the build-up to Guadalcanal’s Appointed Day scheduled for Friday, 1st August, the tournament is not just about sports but it showcases of grass-root pride and resilience.
Matches kicked off on this morning, Thursday, with high energy and cheers across the field.
Each team has its own style and spirit, reflecting the diverse communities of Duidui Ward.
Day one saw electrifying action, with fans packing the sidelines and teams displaying flair and grit.
The tournament is structured for nine initial match-ups, narrowing the field to four teams who will advance to the semi-finals.
John Stewart, Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) for Duidui Ward, emphasized the strategic format; “We have got 18 games lined up, and nine will be played in the early rounds.
The top four teams will earn the place in the semis. It is a tough competition, and the teams know they will have to give it their everything to reach the final.
The finals is expected to be staged this weekend.
