THE Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Jeremiah Manele has highly commended the good work done by the outgoing Director General of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Secretariat, Ambassador Amena Yavoli for the past 4 years.
Speaking during the MSG Foreign Ministers Meeting in Suva on Wednesday this week, Minister Manele acknowledge and commend Ambassador Amena Yavoli for his outstanding and excellent leadership in redirecting the Secretariat through the reform programmes initiated and prudent measures undertaken to strengthen the financial position of the Secretariat to where it is now today from where it was before since he join the MSG Secretariat. Minister Manele said, “to have a good financial record over the years is incredible and indeed a great achievement under your leadership”. This was against a backdrop when the Secretariat faced a huge budget deficit that affects its work and operations.
Ambassador Amena join the MSG Secretariat in 2016 at a time when the Secretariat’s finances were at its precarious state and reforms are needed to improve the management and affairs of the organisation.
Minister Manele further adds, “with Ambassador Amena leaving the MSG Secretariat soon, it is important that a new Director General is appointed to carry on with the reforms and ensure there is continuity of the good work done so the Secretariat can deliver on its work programmes for the benefit of the Members”. Minister Manele also reaffirms Solomon Islands commitment in supporting the work of the MSG Secretariat
Ambassador Amena will leave the Secretariat in April this year. It is expected that the MSG Leaders will appoint a new Director General to lead the MSG Secretariat at the MSG Leaders Summit to be held in Vanuatu later this year.
