SOLOMON Islands says it is honoured to serve as Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), reaffirming its commitment to regional solidarity and Pacific-led solutions to shared challenges.
Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele, who is the current PIF Chair, told Parliament on Wednesday while winding up the sine die motion that the role underscores Solomon Islands’ dedication to addressing key regional priorities, including climate change, regional security and sustainable development.
“As Chair, we will continue to advance Pacific priorities guided by the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent, ensuring that the voices of Pacific peoples remain strong, principled and united on the global stage,” Mr Manele said.
He said Solomon Islands, as PIF Chair, will continue to lead the ongoing review of the Forum’s Regional Architecture in close collaboration with the Troika — comprising the past, current and incoming Chairs — ahead of next year’s Forum meeting in Palau.
“The review of the Regional Architecture remains a task that Solomon Islands, as Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum, will continue to lead, working closely with the Troika as we move towards Palau next year,” he said.
Mr Manele also highlighted Solomon Islands’ growing leadership role at the international level, noting that the country has held several key positions this year and will assume additional leadership responsibilities heading into 2026.
These include serving as:
- Chair of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Council of Ministers
- Chair of PACER Plus
- Chair of the Pacific Labour Mobility Annual Meeting
- Chair of the g7+ group of fragile states
- Member of the UNDP, UNOPS and UNFPA Executive Boards for the 2025–2027 term
The Prime Minister said these leadership roles reflect increasing confidence in Solomon Islands’ diplomatic engagement and its contribution to regional and global cooperation.
