The Solomon Islands men’s national football team has been drawn in pool A of the fourth edition of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Prime Ministers Cup 2025.
This was confirmed by MSG on Tuesday early this week after the tournament’s official draw was held at the Melanesian Haos in Port Moresby.
According to the official draw, Solomon Islands national men’s team were drawn in Pool A alongside New Caledonia and the hosts PNG Gold while Pool B includes Fiji, Vanuatu and PNG Red.
The official draw was unveiled on Tuesday by the host Country-Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister Hon. James Marape, alongside Sports Minister Kinoka Feo and the PNGFA President John Kapi Natto at the Melanesian Haus in Port Moresby.
The annual tournament is celebration of culture, unity and the spirit Melanesia. So the tournament features the five Melanesian nations, which are Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea.
This years edition features both men and women’s tournament. This marks the first time, women’s edition will be held.
In women’s competition, Pool A features New Caledonia, Vanuatu and the hosts PNG Gold while Pool B includes solomon Islands, Fiji and Png Red.
MSG has confirmed that the tournament is set to kickoff in Papua New Guinea from 10-22 next Month-November.
Meanwhile, as the coundown for the tournament continues, teams from the five Melanesian countries have been gearing up in trainings ahead of the tournament.
For the Solomon the Solomon Islands, the training squad for both men and women’s team have been in intensive trainings at the moment and having few trial matches so far as they prepare to represent the country in the Melanesian battle next month.
Solomon Islands national men’s team as part of their preparation ahead of the MSG Prime Ministers cup 2025, they faced off with the A-League side Brisbane Roars in an international friendly in Honiara last month.
According to the national head coach, the international friendly is crucial in their preparation towards the tournament next month.
