Solomon Islands is represented at the 2nd World Summit for Social Development currently underway in Doha, Qatar.
The Summit opened on Tuesday 4th November 2025.
Minister for the Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination (MNPDC), Hon. Trevor Manemahaga is leading a six-member delegation to participate at the meeting.
The United Nations (UN) Second World Summit for Social Development was convened to bring global leaders to assess progress made against international UN Declarations on social development, find solutions to challenges and agree on measures to eradicate poverty, achieve full employment and promote social inclusion, adopting a political declaration to guide future efforts.
In committing to these social development gaps, world leaders adopted the Doha Political Declaration, demonstrating shared pledge by governments to tackle poverty, create decent work, combat discrimination, expand access to social protection and uphold human rights.
Named after the city of its adoption, the Doha Political Declaration renews leaders’ commitment to the 1995 Copenhagen Declaration and the 2030 Agenda, centring social development on three mutually reinforcing pillars namely; poverty eradication, full and productive employment and decent work for all and social inclusion.
Minister Manemahaga will also deliver Solomon Islands’ National statement at the Plenary session of the General debate.
The Summit convened over 14,000 stakeholders under one roof, including more than 40 Heads of State and Governments, 170 ministers, leaders of international organizations, youth representatives, civil society actors and experts.
