Minister for Infrastructure Development Manasseh Maelanga and Pacific International Trust Company (PITCO) Limited have signed a pivotal consultancy agreement early this month to launch the International Shipping Registry (ISR) system.
This agreement marks a significant alignment with the government’s strategic policy to boost economic growth and solidify the Solomon Islands’ standing within the global maritime industry. Minister Maelanga emphasized that the signing symbolizes a critical advancement in realizing the nation’s maritime objectives and increasing its competitiveness on the world stage.
“We are dedicated to transforming our maritime sector, and this partnership with PITCO is integral to that vision,” Minister Maelanga stated.
“By establishing an efficient and comprehensive International Shipping Registry, we are creating pathways for increased investment in our maritime infrastructure and services.”
The International Shipping Registry (ISR) plays a crucial role not only in supporting the shipping industry but also in promoting sustainable practices and enhancing the overall economic well-being of nations worldwide.
Robert Bohn, Chief Executive Officer of PITCO, expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in their expertise by the government.
“We are honored to be selected for this important consultancy role,” Bohn remarked.
“Our committed team will work closely with all stakeholders and hand it over to the government within the given three-month time frame.”
This partnership is anticipated to yield substantial benefits for the Solomon Islands’ maritime sector, fostering sustainable economic development and reinforcing the country’s dedication to meeting international maritime standards.
The International Shipping Registry serves as an official record maintained by a government or international organization, documenting essential details about shipping vessels engaged in global trade.
These registries are vital for tracking ship registrations, licensing shipowners, and ensuring compliance with maritime safety regulations and international laws.
Pacific International Trust Company (PITCO) Limited, headquartered in Port Vila, Vanuatu, is a leading consultancy firm in the region specializing in maritime services, offering expert advice to governments and organizations to enhance operational efficiencies and regulatory frameworks.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Solomon Islands Maritime Authority Director Thierry Nervale, a representative from the Economic Reform Unit, and senior officials of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development.
