OFC: The Solomon Islands U-16 Women’s Team are through to the semi-finals next week.
This came after they managed to scrap through by a goal to defeat Tonga and created history for by reaching the semi-finals of the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship for the first time.
The final pool match was played in Apia, Samoa.
The winning goal was scored by Angie Ragaruma in the 74th minute of the match to seal their victory.
There was mass celebration amongst the players and even the local fans.
Congratulations message have been shared online.
“I just focused and trusted my touch,” said Ragaruma. “This goal means everything to me and our team. Tonga’s Liani Vaha hit the post twice and had multiple chances, but the Solomon Islands defence stood strong.
The Solomon Islands now face hosts Samoa on Monday for a place at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
New Zealand is the current title holder.
