Solomon Islands junior taekwondo sensation Tingsun Sia has won gold in the men’s 58kg category at the 11th Korean Ambassador’s Cup Championship, held over the weekend at the Vodafone Arena in Suva, Fiji.
Sia secured the top podium spot after defeating a Fijian opponent in the final on Saturday night.
His road to victory included an impressive semi-final win over Kiribati athlete Karoto Rimai, who settled for bronze.
The young athlete was accompanied by head coach Junior Maetia, with the tournament serving as part of Sia’s preparation for the 2027 Pacific Games in Tahiti, a major event he has firmly set his sights on.
The championship featured over 100 taekwondo athletes, including representatives from eight Fijian clubs, a team from Kiribati, and several top competitors from across the Pacific region.
Sia also recently competed at the 2024 Junior World Taekwondo Championships in Chuncheon, Korea.
