The Solomon Islands Council of Trade Unions (SICTU) extends its sincere appreciation to the Government for its recent and meaningful engagement with key public sector unions, namely the Solomon Islands National Teachers Association (SINTA), the Solomon Islands Nurses Association (SINA), and the Solomon Islands Allied Health Association (SIAHA).
In a statement SICTU said, these discussions, which focused on the critical welfare issues facing its dedicated members across various government ministries and departments, represent a significant and positive step towards fostering a collaborative industrial relations environment.
“Our members in education, healthcare, and allied health services are the backbone of our nation’s public service, and addressing their concerns is fundamental to a strong and effective public sector.”
SICTU believes that such direct and respectful dialogue is the cornerstone of progress. “We are encouraged by the Government’s willingness to sit down with SINTA, SINA, and SIAHA to find mutually agreeable solutions that will improve the working and living conditions of these essential workers. We urge for this momentum to be maintained and for these consultations to continue until tangible outcomes are achieved.”
Meanwhile, SICTU has congratulated the Ministry of Public Service, the Solomon Islands Public Employees Union (SIPEU), and all other stakeholders on the successful progress of the Public Service Bill in Parliament.
“The modernization of our public service legislation is a long-awaited and crucial reform. The passage of this Bill is vital for creating a more efficient, accountable, and merit-based public service that can effectively meet the needs of our nation. SICTU acknowledges the collaborative effort that has brought this important legislation to its advanced stage and commends all parties for their dedication to this national priority.”
SICTU said it remains committed to its role as the umbrella body for trade unions in Solomon Islands. “We will continue to advocate for the rights and welfare of all workers and to support constructive partnership between unions and the Government and all employers for the sustainable development of our nation.”
