A well known Non-Government Organization (NGO), Solomon Islands Development Trust (SIDT) has celebrated its 33rd Anniversary at the headquarters in Honiara on Wednesday.
The theme for the 33rd Anniversary was “Strong Villages equals to Strong Nation”.
More than a hundred invited guests, families, friends and staff of the organizations celebrated the day together.
SIDT has been helping more than 5,000 villages in the country since its establishment in 1982.
In his remarks, the Director of SIDT Longden Manedika said, SIDT’s goal for the past 33 years was ‘improving the quality of village living’.
“Our goal 33 years ago was centered around ‘improving the quality of village living’ and this still remains today.
“We do this by having the nation informed, because information is power,” he said.
Meanwhile, SIDT also acknowledged the pioneers of the organization and also pays tribute to them.
“I pay tribute to the pioneers of SIDT – late Dr John Joseph Roughan (SIDT’s founder), and late Abraham Baeanisia (SIDT’s first Director).
“I also pay respect to Board members employees that have left SIDT dead or alive.
“We commemorate 33 years of service today, at least this track record of being an NGO emerge within the first parliament term is worth commemorating,” Mr Manedika stated.
SIDT is an NGO with a mission to improve the quality of village living in the Solomon Islands.
