MEMBERS of the public are urged to report names of students and staff who may be suspected of collaboration to secure space at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) through nepotism or bribery.
SINU’s Acting Vice Chancellor Professor Basil Marasinghe stated this in reply to complaints that alleged SINU’s intake this year was unfair for the high achievers.
It was claimed some high academic achievers were unable to secure spaces at SINU this year, while a lot of low achievers seen to have taken up the spaces.
There were suspicions that some of these students may have collaborated with certain staff to secure those spaces.
But Professor Marasinghe denied the allegation.
“Please note that most suitable students are selected on competitive basis so some applicants who have minimum qualifications may not have been selected,” Professor Marasinghe explained.
He said the public must report to his office the following:
1. Please provide with me names of the students (applicants) who have entry requirements but not selected.
2. Please provide with me names of the students (applicants) who do not have required qualifications but have been selected.
3. If bribery was involved, names of the staff demanded bribes .and received money in exchange of selection.
4. Names of the staff and applicants involved in nepotism.
“Kindly provide these details so that I can bring wrong doers to the book to stop these alleged mal practices.
