THE Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) has named the final squad that will travel to Fiji to compete in the upcoming Soltuna 7s and Maris 7s in Fiji.
According to SIRUF statement the squad will take part in the Soltuna 7s and Marist 7s in Fiji scheduled for this month.
“Below is the final 15 man squad for the national 7s that will travel to Fiji for the Soltuna 7s and the Marist 7s.
“Include in the squad were three U18 players, this is to help gain more experience and exposure as they will travel to Australia in April,’’ the statement added.
SIRUF development officer and national 7s team coach Alivereti Mocelutu insists that the Soltuna 7s will provide a pathway to identify potential players.
“The initiative for the tournament is to strengthen the bond and relationship, enlighten roots and most importantly, scope potential players to represent the Solomons in future tournaments, especially the Oceania 7s, Pacific Mini Games, Pacific Games and World Rugby Sevens Series,” he said.
“This is our pathways to short and long term plans,” Alivereti said.
He stressed SIRUF will send two teams to compete in the inaugural Soltuna 7s in Suva, Fiji.
“The two teams from Solomon Islands include the national team and Islanders Rugby Club.
“We recommend sending our national team for exposure after we played well in the Oceania 7s and mini games in Vanuatu last year,” he added.
