The Solomon Islands students association (SISA) studying at the University of the South Pacific (USP) in Fiji will kick-off their week-long independence celebration with sporting activities starting today.
Reports reaching this paper stated that there would be sporting activities, cultural night performance and feasting being planned for the day.
A total of five sporting games will be played during the sports day.
They are soccer, tough rugby, volleyball, netball and basketball.
For the cultural performances, there are 12 cultural groups which confirmed to take part and they are; Temotu, Renbel, Central Island, North Malaita Association, Lauru People Associations, Isabel, Western, Ma’asina, Central Malaita, Makira, Wailoku, Tikopia and Solomon Islands Kiribati community.
Each ethnic group are expected to perform two dances and one practical item or drama.
The purpose is to get the students together and participate in sporting and cultural activities while celebrating their country’s independence.
The highlight of the event will staged on Monday 7th July when the country will mark its 36th independence anniversary.
