TODAY marks exactly 25 years to the day when Solomon Islands Waters Authority (SIWA) provides municipal water in Honiara and in the provincial urban centres.
Twenty five years are probably long journey for SIWA to fulfil its mission Safe Water for a healthy Nation.
But reflecting back the recent achievements over the past 25 years, SIWA staff deserve a celebration.
Chairman of SIWA Phil Bradford highlighted that over the past 25 years, SIWA since 2010 returned to profit and resolved the $30 million debts to the Solomon Islands Electrical Authority (SIEA).
He also highlighted that SIWA in 2017 made $7 million profits from losses of $36 million that was accumulated in 2013.
Last year SIWA collect revenue of 100 million which is increased from 70 million collected in 2013.
In terms of providing quality water SIWA have meet 98 percent which meets the quality standard of the World Health Organization and water are now provided 22 hours per day.
Adding to these achievements Mr Bradford said they have completed transmission main tank at East Kola tank, launched the 30 year Strategy plan and five year action plan
He said with these achievements SIWA is very close to achieving it vision
“Water now meets the WHO quality standards and supply 22 hours per day so we are very close to achieving our mission,” he said.
General Manager Ian Gooden said while they are celebrating the 25 years anniversary they are looking forward to implement several big projects this year
He said one of the big projects is the construction of new depot on September.
He said other projects includes upgrading of Auki office, sewage improvements construction, cash power projects, Lungga plant, reduce non-revenue water, improve customer focus and Tariff increase to help fund SIWA portion.
He said the recently project they have accomplished is the construction of Water tank at East Kola.
