The Solomon Islands National Senior Men’s team has concluded its campaign at the FIFA Series 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia, registering two defeats but walking away with valuable lessons and encouraging signs for the future.
The national side under the leadership of Interim Coach Ben Cahn opened its FIFA Series 2026 tournament against European opponents Bulgaria, suffering a heavy 10-2 loss.
Despite the scoreline, Solomon Islands showed attacking intent, managing to break through a well-drilled professional defense to score twice. Solomon Islands forward and talisman Raphael Lea’i scored twice against the European side last Friday.
In their second outing, the team faced a much-improved St Kitts and Nevis side on Monday, going down 4-2 in a competitive encounter. Once again, Solomon Islands demonstrated resilience in attack, finding the net against another structured and physical opponent.
While the results were harsh, they highlighted a key positive — the team’s ability to create and convert chances against higher-level opposition. Scoring against both a European professional side and a strong Caribbean team signals potential within the squad.
The campaign ultimately underlined areas needing improvement, particularly in defense and game management, but also reinforced belief that Solomon Islands can compete and grow at the international level with continued development and exposure.
Meanwhile, as understood the FIFA Series is designed to provide valuable opportunities for national teams to gain international exposure by competing against well-structured and higher-level opponents.
For the Solomon Islands National Senior Men’s team, their participation in the FIFA Series 2026 has been a significant learning experience. Facing strong and organized teams has tested the squad at a higher level, highlighting both their strengths and areas that require improvement.
While the results may not have gone in their favor, the experience gained throughout the tournament will serve as an important lesson. It offers a platform for growth, development, and better preparation as the team continues its journey in international football.
