The Southeast Vella (SEV)Community Policing Committee (CPC) in Western Province was recently boosted with a new set of uniforms.
This has lifted the morale and visibility of its community-based officers in their ongoing efforts to maintain law and order across the constituency.
The official handover of the uniforms took place last month, with members of the committee expressing appreciation for the support shown towards their voluntary work in enhancing safety and security in villages and communities within the constituency.
The initiative is part of a broader community policing strategy aimed at strengthening local governance, community engagement, and proactive crime prevention at the grassroots level.
This is in collaboration with the Parakasi Police Station at VDC Centre in Vonunu under Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF).
Coordinator of the SEV Policing Committee Stanley Hemi told Solomon Star this week that uniforms will help identify committee members more easily during public events, community patrols, and conflict mediation efforts.
He also revealed that additional equipment, including shoes and other essential security gear, is expected to be handed over later this month.
Community leaders in Vella have welcomed the initiative, saying it demonstrates growing recognition of the crucial role community policing plays in complementing national law enforcement and fostering safer, more cohesive communities.
Meanwhile, SEV Community Policing Task Officers have taken full responsibility for security and crowd management throughout the ongoing SEV Constituency Cup tournament.
