Dear Editor – The above heading which appeared on Saturday 11th October issue of The Solomon Star newspaper, ignites something that needs mentioning
After being in parliament for five times and from being a prime minister to speaker, what else is there to be achieved that requires re-entry?
That is the peak in politics. And to stoop so low to be vying a seat in the next parliament is a disgrace.
It is like “jumping from the frying pan into the fire” as the saying goes. Otherwise “once beaten, twice shy,” should be the humble position to pursue.
Some great leaders have tried in the past elections but in vain. No harm in trying!
But being an ordinary member of parliament again, is just like falling from grace to doom, unless one has to sacrifice his integrity and fame, and of course for the sake of the marginalized.
That is perhaps the angle taken, as the reason mentioned in that article but it is difficult to see the underlying logic it is what the people want, so he said.
If the voting constituents stood by their word and gave the power, it would all be well and good, but otherwise the saying that “a bird hand, is worth two in the bush” should be taken note of a good reminder.
