Spouses of the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Leaders took time on Monday to visit the National Art Gallery in Honiara as part of the official program for the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting engaging with local artisans and traditional crafts in a celebration of Solomon Islands cultural heritage.
Hosted by Madam Jocelyn Manele, spouse of the Solomon Islands Prime Minister, the delegation toured exhibitions featuring shell money, wood carving and lava-lava textiles from across the provinces.
The group was joined by the French Polynesian President Moetai Charles Brotherson, who also served as the PIFLM host.
Madam Manele said the visit offered a unique opportunity for regional spouses to explore locally made items and shared cultural experiences.
“This trip is for all the spouses of leaders to come and see what is made by the local people,” she said.
“Some of these things may be similar to them, others not-but it is a chance to see the differences and share culture across our countries.”

“We have set up an art exhibition especially for the visit, showcasing both gallery collections and live demonstrations,” said Julie Fakaia, Acting Curator at the National Art Gallery.
“Artist are demonstrating shell money making, weaving from Rennell and Bellona, and crafts from the Western Province. It is a chance for the spouses to see and purchase authentic Solomon Islands handicrafts.”
The spouse browsed local stalls and purchased handmade items from the Solomon Islands Artisans, with traditional gifts exchanged during the visit.
The exhibition will remain open throughout the summit, offering international visitors a glimpse into the nation’s creative spirit.
The event marked a cultural highlight of the week-long-summit, which brings leaders across the pacific to discuss regional cooperation, climate resilience, and inclusive development.
